Keira's Eye Appointment

Keira had her eye appointment today. She failed her kindergarten eye exam (vision) part of the physical. She had to see the same specialist I saw for my eye migraines (ocular migraines).

When I made the appointment they told me it would only last an hour. So, I was thinking we would be done by 10:30. My best friend watched the other kids for me so I could spend more time with the specialist, asking questions, filling out paper work and answering questions without being distracted. ;) I texted her at 10:20 (her appt. was at 9:30) and said we were going to be another hour. uggg! It lasted from 9:30-11:30 a.m. After picking out glasses frames and setting up another appointment we got into the truck at 11:43 a.m.

She had an eye exam with the nurse, this lasted about 40 minutes. When the nurse was done, she saw the specialist, this lasted about 10 minutes. He said he needed to dilate her eyes and the drops would take 20-25 minutes to start working. We waited in the waiting room for 20 minutes.

He finally came back to get us, he did her exam and said that her right eye goes in a little (he used some other technical terms ;) ) Her right eye is not as strong as her left eye because when her right eye does its thing, the left eye compensates for that eye, making the left eye twice as strong. She does need glasses only to make the right eye stronger (not to correct the inward movement it does). He is not worried about the eye going in because it doesn't do it very often. He is more worried about the seeing part.

So, of course, Keira could see fine until the nurse told me that her right eye is not as clear as her left eye. That's when Keira started saying she couldn't see any letters with her right eye.

Here are the numbers for those of you who understand optometry talk ;)

Right eye at distance 20/50
Left eye at distance   20/25
Right eye at near       20/30
Left eye at near         20/25

She failed the Amblyopia part of the test or lazy eye.

We told her a couple weeks ago that she might need glasses when we found out she failed the vision part of her physical and she cried because she didn't want glasses. I told her that her cousin (boy) had glasses and that some kids have to have them. She didn't care, she still didn't want them. She saw a cute little girl at her cheer class with glasses and they were pink. She talked to the girl and is now excited to get glasses. It was hard looking at glasses frames, let her pick out what she wanted, then have to tell her we can't have them for a couple weeks because they have to put the "prescription" into the glasses for her to see. They already had glass in them though, so she didn't understand that. She was fine once we got into the truck and started talking about it.

Conversation With My 5 Year Old

Today on the way to school it was just Keira and I. She was asking if she could have a Dora DVD and I said maybe for Christmas.

I said, "You guys are going to get a lot of Christmas gifts, maybe someone will get you a DVD. You are going to get gifts from mom and dad, Santa, nana and papa, grandma and grandpa, aunt Jackie, and uncle Robby....." And continued to name off her other uncles and aunts that they would receive gifts from and she interrupted me and said, "But mom, that's a lot of gifts. We can't have that many gifts and that would be a lot of pajamas. That would be very nice of them, but that's still a lot of gifts."  I said, "I know, that is a lot of gifts, but you are also giving gifts back to the people that give you gifts."

Then she changed the subject and started talking about her last day of school. Her last day of school for break is next Wednesday, December 21, also her Christmas program at school. I said, "Ya, Keira you have today, Monday and Wednesday left before school is done until January." She was confused (because she knows she doesn't start kindergarten until August) and thought I meant done with school, meaning that she would start kindergarten in January and not be able to see her friend Seth, so she was pretty sad about that.

I explained to her that she would go back to preschool and see all her friends in January that she was just on Christmas break, a mini vacation. She said, "Then can we go to the beach during our vacation?" She said, "Mom, it would be nice and warm at the beach." I just laughed and said, "Maybe in the summer we can go to the beach for our own little vacation."

Friday, November 4th

Still in pain! Stomach pain. I am used to it by now since it has been about 6 days. I got my prescription that the Dr. ordered and it doesn't seem to be helping, looks like I might be going back on Monday.

Pretty good day so far! It's Friday! Got to sleep in until 10 today. I had a parent/teacher conference for Keira today at her preschool. That was at noon, so had to get things done a little earlier today than normal.

The other kids (Aden and Taygen) are napping now. Dan is in the shower and I am enjoying some peace and quiet :).

Gonna go pick up Keira from school at 2:30 then head to the 'W' store (mall) to do some clothes shopping with the kids and hubby. Then off to grandma and grandpa's for supper. Should be a fun night.

Sunday October 30th

Today is not a good day! The kids are sick!

It started with Taygen getting sick (throwing up) right before bed then she was fine (no fever, running around). Then Aden woke up in the middle of the night around 1:30 and threw up in his bed. He threw up 6 times in the middle of the night and then Keira started throwing up, she threw up 3 times in the middle of the night. Aden and Keira did not sleep at all (neither did mom, dad was up the last couple hours). They finally calmed down about 6, I went to check on them and they were both out, at this time I knew I could finally at least shut my eyes and they would be okay.

They were up by 9 and started throwing up again. Daddy got up with them and let me sleep since I was up with them from 1:30 a.m- 6:15 a.m. Not sure why, it doesn't seem to be just some bug. We had Cherry On Top frozen yogurt at about 7:30 p.m.  that night. When Taygen threw up I just thought she was full, but then Aden and Keira started, so I figured it was some kind of food poisoning but I haven't gotten sick yet...knock on wood. Aden seems to be the worst. He has gotten sick about 9 times. It is 3:15, Sunday, October 30th and he doesn't seem to be doing any better. He hasn't gotten sick since about 1 p.m, but he doesn't have anything in his system.

Saturday, October 15th

9:10 a.m
Taygen didn't sleep very well last night, I was up with her from about 1:15 a.m to about 4:30 a.m. Not sure why she was up. It is Dan's day to sleep in so he is still sleeping. Aden is the only one up right now. Taygen and Keira are still sleeping. Keira must have had a long day Friday with her field trip and Taygen just needs the sleep since she was up most of the night.

It is pretty peaceful today. Aden is watching his favorite show, Lazy Town and I am sitting here playing on the computer, I should really probably be doing something productive like cleaning or laundry, but it's Saturday, isn't this supposed to be my day off? :) I guess I really don't get a day off, even if I sleep in I still have to do my daily routine with the kids.

Not sure what we are going to do today, was thinking of a walk with the kiddos, but feeling a little lazy today.

10:22 p.m.
It has been a long day. I've been up since 8:00 a.m but didn't sleep good last night because I was up off and on with Taygen. The hubby let me nap a couple hours today but that didn't really make me feel any better. Gotta get up at 7:00 a.m for Sunday School that starts at 9:00 a.m. Can't really miss any Church because I am the Sunday School teacher so I have to be there!

Intro to Author

Hello all!

The oldest girl is 4, going on 10, will be 5 in November. My son just turned 3 in September, and my youngest daughter just turned 19 months. So, ya I think I have my hands full.

I have my bachelor's of Science in Psychology and was a therapist, but thought being home with my children was more important! I am also a first time writer to a book called 'Silly Moon'. Waiting on my illustrator to finish his pictures :). The book will be available soon!
